Craig Hutchison adapts Oscar Wilde's SALOME with a modern twist. In Wilde's play about the Biblical tale of Salome and the dance of the seven veils, King Herod lusts after his wife's daughter Salome and begs her to dance for him. He promises her anything she desires; and what Salome desires is prophet John the Baptist--who has spurned her affections.
But what if the genders were switched? What if Salome was a young man, John the Baptist was a female prophet, and the lusting king was a lusting queen? Is this more or less shocking? Might the story end differently?
